I’m not really sure what to say about these ads, mostly because I’m not sure where I should start. The idea of Scarlett Johansson as Cinderella makes good sense I suppose but any campaign featuring Lyle Lovett as an Alice in Wonderland character just gets into a very weird area.
And perhaps this is just me, […]
Creative Exchange Agency, representatives of such talents as David LaChappelle, Kenji Toma and Brett Ratner (yes, the same Brett Ratner who directed the Rush Hour franchise) has finally revamped their previously-stuck-in-the-dark-ages website.
It’s a lot nicer. Very white as opposed to the old dark one. Though a lot of information (such as artist profiles) still seems […]
There is a great post on Magnum’s blog, that nicely follows up an earlier post here on the rising prices for fine art photography. Magnum, being the agency that was set up to represent some of the greatest photojournalist pioneers, probably knows what they’re talking about. The article gives a nice history too for some […]

Or not. It was a hoax but a newspaper in Switzerland fell for it and inserted the 2-page colour spread. Via AdFreak. Surely they would’ve expected Gucci to hire someone besides one of the Backstreet Boys to be the new face of their campaign.

Tyler Brule, he of Wallpaper* and Winkreative fame, has launched a new venture by the name of Monocle. His new venture follows a familiar vein in his career; European focused, culturally and aesthetically driven, and let’s face it, fairly elitist. However the man who started off his career at the BBC and was shot by […]
Great article about Jeff Wall in this week’s New York Times Magazine and his recently launched retrospective at the MoMA. Wall came to prominence in the late 70’s as the first of his generation of fine art photographers to bring photography to the size and status of paintings, using lightboxes to illuminate the richness and […]

For those who haven’t made it to the Armory Show yet, I dutifully snapped a few pictures when I went this saturday. Luckily I went around noon…by the time we left around 3pm the […]

As everyone knows the art boom cycle refuses to go bust. There was an interesting article in New York Magazine last week about how a major collection was hitting the market, Thomas Solley, a descendant of the Eli Lilly family, had started collecting prints in the 70’s, including such classics as Dovima with Elephants […]
Popped by the Deitch Gallery on Wooster to check out the latest exhibition - Jason Schmidt’s “Artists” series to promote his new book by the same name. He spent the last 6 years taking portraits of some of the most prominent modern artists of our day, including Matthew Barney, Maurizio Cattelan, Aida Ruilova and Vanessa […]

You’ve probably seen the posters all around town for James Nachtwey’s latest exhibition, called “The Sacrifice”. He is one of the world’s preeminent photojournalists, a contract photographer for Time since 1984 and a member of the famous Magnum Co-operative Agency. His latest show details scenes he has shot of soldiers wounded in Iraq […]

The Queen of Soul, Paris, 1994
Went to the last day of the Jean-Paul Goude show at the Hasted Hunt gallery yesterday. Famous for having ‘created’ Grace Jones, who was at one point his wife and is still his muse, his career as an art director and photographer has been marked by a theatrical use […]
