The Queen of Soul, Paris, 1994
Went to the last day of the Jean-Paul Goude show at the Hasted Hunt gallery yesterday. Famous for having ‘created’ Grace Jones, who was at one point his wife and is still his muse, his career as an art director and photographer has been marked by a theatrical use of scale and colour.
One of my favorite quotes from an interview with WWD: “I’ve gone through most ethnic groups - very often getting involved with women of different ethnic groups sentimentally. But it doesn’t make me a specialist.”
