James Nachtwey “The Sacrifice”
Written on February 19, 2007
You’ve probably seen the posters all around town for James Nachtwey’s latest exhibition, called “The Sacrifice”. He is one of the world’s preeminent photojournalists, a contract photographer for Time since 1984 and a member of the famous Magnum Co-operative Agency. His latest show details scenes he has shot of soldiers wounded in Iraq and their subsequent recovery efforts.
I was lucky enough to be invited to the opening, held at Mark Seliger’s 401 Projects, at which I believe ten Iraqi veterans were present. I didn’t want to post too many pictures of the show as it’s something one should go see for themselves, but here are a few glimpses. (Show ends April 8th.)
Many of the soldiers are now themselves involved with Operation Comfort, a group dedicated to helping soldiers who are recovering at the Brooke Army Medical Center in San Antonio.
