LIFE R.I.P.

Out of the news that LIFE Magazine’s third coming was drawing to an end with the April issue, came this amazing piece of information.

“LIFE is continuing with plans to put its entire collection of 10 million images online, 97% of which have never been seen by the public. The site will be launched later this year and will be a single destination to view the most important photography of our time, both archival and contemporary.”

Photographers whose images are part of this collection include such greats as Alfred Eisenstaedt and Gordon Parks.  What’s even more amazing is that in this day of microstock sites the collection will be apparently made available for public use at no personal cost…amazing.
