Andreas Gursky has lost it.

That is the presumption made by New York Magazine in light of a new exhibition of his work at the Matthew Marks Gallery.
Gursky’s May Day V (2006), at Matthew Marks.

To me, Andreas Gursky has always been able to take an image that would be fairly mundane under any other circumstance and to be able to turn that image into something quite profound, be it his famous “99 Cent” image (that seems to be selling like hotcakes at all the art auctions) or his pictures of trading floors around the world, or his images of young people at raves.
I’m not able to critique on a much higher level than this…I’ll have to see the show for myself.
