Doc Martens not so heavenly
Written on May 30, 2007
Coming late to this, but Creative Review does a nice summary of the brouhaha over the use of sainted rock icons for a series of Doc Martens ads by their (former) ad agency Saatchi & Saatchi UK.
I actually don’t think the overall concept for these ads are so bad, after all, Doc Martens is a brand that has long been associated with punk rock and rebellious youth. However the execution and the PR fiasco that followed are not exactly the results you want as an agency or client.
Since this is a photography blog, the ads were shot by notable conceptual ad photographer Dimitri Daniloff. Though what he actually shot I can’t be sure about. Maybe he borrowed some wax figures from Madame Tussaud’s.

I’m guessing he shot the models wearing togas, and then they photoshopped the heads in afterwards…And (I’m not the first to say this), Kurt really would be wearing chucks, not Docs!
