Blog Is the New Black

Indeed it is!

User-generated Content

Over at Worship Worthy, there is a post on Christiania Vodka launching an online campaign to get art work submissions (illustrations, paintings and yes, photography) from the public at large, focusing on the theme of nudity.
They are using Richard Avedon’s iconic photo of Nastassja Kinski and the Serpent as the inspiration for this campaign.
I’m not […]

And on that note…

August 24, 2007

The International Herald Tribune has a great article on the recent rise of more independent magazines, and in this case, especially 032c, a Berlin-based alternative to the Vogue’s and GQ’s of the world.

September’s Vogue

(Steven Meisel)
Most of the magazines for September are out and Vogue has once again outdone themselves…a whopping 840 page tome to all things fashion, culture and art related.
Cathy Horyn is probably a far better writer than I’ll ever be so head over to her New York Times blog to read her thoughts on the latest […]

Puma and Ryan

Being as Ryan McGinley has developed much of his considerable young reputation for his work in nude photography, Puma commissioned him to head to Woodstock with some friends, a camera, their new bag and not much else.
Wallpaper has the exclusive on the film behind the trip.

Running A Design Studio

August 17, 2007

Not very photography related but one of the reasons I love blogs is the insiders view it affords you, in whatever it is you’re interested in.

Over at Creative Review, they asked how design studio Build runs its operations from project management to getting the invoices out.
So for those photographers who aren’t yet represented (and even those who […]

Using Fashion to Sell Electronics

From the New York Times, a good read on how Philips is using a famous director (Wong Kar-Wai), a fashion photographer (Vincent Peters) and linking their new line of flat-screen televisions to luxury brands such as Lanvin to promote the idea of luxury.
This is of course similar to what Hitachi did a few months ago, […]

Word on the Street

August 16, 2007

August is traditionally a slow month in our business and that generally lethargy has translated to this blog…so I apologize for the lack of posts.  But we’ll have another interview coming soon!
In the meanwhile I’m skimming off all the other great blogs I read.
From Style File, a great breakdown on all the Fall campaigns and […]

Book of the Month

August 7, 2007

As it was my ahem, birthday recently, a good friend of mine gifted me my book of the month.
William Eggleston’s new monograph “5 x 7″. (I can’t really write a better description than that.)

Word on the Street

Norman Jean Roy gets a coveted Conde Nast Contract…

New York Times’ T: is getting a revamp

Changes at Elle

Good article from the New York Times on Joe Zee’s ongoing transformation of Elle.  I think that the photography the last few months has been vastly improved and I am looking forward to the September issue (Joe Zee’s first official issue).
