Word on the Street

Written on September 26, 2007

I think the dust has fully settled from this but I could be wrong. Two agents from Katy Barker have gone over to Art Department to form a new division called Brydges/MacKinney. I heard rumours that Terry Richardson and Robin Broadbent we’re going with over as well but it seems that they are starting their new agency with Jenny Gage & Tom Betterton, formerly of Jed Root.

In addition to that Maciek Kobielski has joined Art Department. They have fully grown their fashion roster in the last few months.  Onwards and upwards!

In another bit of news, Jed Root has added Scott Schuman, aka The Sartorialist, as an artist on their roster.  I think that this is a pretty bold move that could pay dividends.  He is someone who can traverse different markets and I wish them the best.

The Sartorialist signing with Jed Root is a joke I think. What Scott Schuman did was ingenious b/c he took something and made it mainstream and easily digestible, but I don’t think he even knows fashion that well, let alone photography. I think he knows PR and how to capitalize on trends, not even new trends, but ones that are mainstream as far as the fashion scene goes by the time he posts them.

Yes, he may bring in some bank for Jed Root, b/c mainstream and easily digestible = $, but I think he does more to devalue their image as a good rep house than anything.

Not that I have anything against him, I actually check out his blog once and awhile, but more for “people watching” and gossip than anything else.

Perhaps, perhaps not. If anything I could see him playing a “Glenn O’brien” role at Jed Root. Someone who can act as a stylist, writer, editor and yes, occasional photographer.
