Sean’s Mangled Arm

Needs Help.

Your website sucks..from A Photo Editor

October 30, 2007

Great post by A Photo Editor on a photographer they were pushing with an apparently horrible site (or intro) that killed their chance.
My own quick thoughts…
1. Your site will most often, nowadays, be the first way anyone sees your work. If you don’t have a site, you’re in trouble. Get one, and put […]

Crossing over..

October 29, 2007

New York Magazine has a good article on Lauren Ptak, the blogger behind Iheartphotograph, who has curated her first gallery show with Higher Pictures, a gallery on the Upper East side run by Kim Bourus, the former head of cultural projects at Magnum.
Congratulations to a fellow blogger!

Love him or hate him…

People seem to either love or hate David Lachappelle.
I know where I lie…and this story for Vogue Hommes had me smiling the whole way through.

STYLIST

October 25, 2007

I was lucky enough to have been able to attend an event at Skylight Studios the other night, Style.com’s party in honour of the 16 elite stylists they chose to be featured in Stylists: The Interpreters of Fashion, published with Rizzoli and written by Sarah Mower.
Needless to say, this was a pretty glamourous little event, […]

This week’s sign of the apocalypse

This has nothing to do with anything photography related.

Word on the Street

October 20, 2007

Lots has been happening out there! Overheard from PDN…
“MS Logan photo repping agency and its fine art division Fred & Associates recently brought in several new hires. Elizabeth Lucas is MS Logan’s new managing director, coming from Ogilvy & Mather, where she was a senior partner working in the art buying department. Former Ogilvy […]

A Tribute to Bruce Weber

Via New York Mag is this brilliant, um, homage to Abercrombie and Fitch’s, erm, male dominated advertising work.
Bruce has been around lately…the picture below from his modelling days has been floating around the blogosphere (can we come up with a better word than blogosphere please?) as well.

And wouldn’t you know it I saw him shooting […]

Henry Wolf Would be Proud

I haven’t done this in awhile, and what did I come across recently but the Louis Vuitton Homme Campaign shot by Martin Parr.
And what do you know…it looks like Martin Parr’s work.
Via Ogilvy & Mather Paris, the work reflects his style…high colour saturation, a cut-off perspective…and I think it looks fantastic.
Like Stephen Shore shooting Bottega […]

Becoming a photography agent

October 18, 2007

Sorry for not posting a bit more frequently…it’s the busy season!

Inspired by my fellow anonymous blogger, A Photo Editor, if any of you out there are interested in becoming a photography agent, here are the sure fire ways to become a powerful agent to the world’s greatest photographers.
There is no sure fire way. Our business […]

Word on the Street

A review of the British Esquire re-design..
a new magazine in the wake of recent closings…but this one looks really good.
Michael Jackson for L’uomo Vogue and Marc Jacobs for Arena Homme +…
via Exposure/Compensation…a great article on the history of Leica in the New Yorker.

More tips for the trade

On Simon Stanmore’s blog I came across this post, featuring a video of Catherine Talese speaking at Photography 2.0 in New York.  Catherine is a very experienced photo editor who has worked at many great publications such as GQ and Absolute (full disclosure: I have worked on jobs with her) and in this talk she […]
