The Shot on VH1

Written on November 5, 2007

Oh my.

You might have caught this reality tv competition on VH1 last night.

10 photographers competing to be the best fashion photographer.

The show started off with a montage of each photographer’s portfolios…it was a bit confusing as none of them really had fashion photography in their work.

Their major assignment involved two teams of five photographers shooting a fashion editorial on a sailboat, with each photographer responsible for one page of a 5 page story (while the others acted as assistants).

Suffice it to say, everything was an absolute disaster.  Everyone squabbled, the shots were absolute pants and it was all quite a joke.

I will watch this show to the bitter end out of morbid curiosity.

I have to agree. It was quite an entertaining train wreck. Entertaining is probably not the word I’m looking for but I will see this through to the end.

They posted ads on craigslist. 2 of my friends made it to the audition. Both brought their portfolios and their books were not even looked at…. soooooo.

It’s a contest. How could anyone who wins these shows be taken seriously?

“..They posted ads on craigslist. 2…”
This tells you about the level of production quality there going for.
With all of the great young photographers in NYC and in the U.S. they could only find these idots on Craiglist?

    What a piece of crap!!

Piper, ..known her for at least 10 years.
Why the hell she would humiliate herself this way is beyond me.
She should have spent more time on set assisting rather than going back to school to study photography.

Don’t you people know that there is no reality in Reality TV??

This is not how it’s done in the real world.
In fact not one of these people could get a job as a photo assistant much less as a photographer for a real client.
