Word on the Street

Sorry for the lack of posting…it seems like others haven’t been on top either, or have completely gone away. According to Jackanory, joining the ranks of Alec Soth and the Bitter Photographer (minus an appearance on Jackanory), are Christian Patterson and the peerless Olivier Laude. You shall be missed!
And people are even blogging about the lack of blogging in our space. Whatever shall be next?
Anyways AVS is still here, just been busy lately. But a visit to the galleries to see some shows right before closing (Mapplethorpe, Horst P. Horst and Juergen Teller…all brilliant. Horst’s exhibition had a photo of Irving Penn from 1951…the only picture I have ever seen of the man) had me motivated to put some thoughts down.
However some new blogs have joined us now…Photoshelter’s new launched blog with Rachel Hulin at the helm, a former editor at Rollingstone.com and Nerve.com, as well as Heather Morton’s Art Buyer blog…welcome to the blogging world (thanks to APE and Jackanory for those tips)! The cross linking is going to get even more incestuous now, wonderful.
Anyways, here’s the normal linkage roundup…
Over at APE…his interview with a big shot art buyer and his post on paying to play…and an interview in the Independent with Mario Testino
From the New York Times…
A history of the photobooth in New York, with interactive guides
May Pang’s photos from John Lennon’s “Lost Weekend”
Elsewhere…
Over at Year in Pictures, a great post on Giacomelli
Backlash against the Vanity Fair exhibition at the National Portrait Gallery from the Guardian
Embracing the web…Ford Models creates their own channel on Youtube (Via The Business of Fashion)
Slightly creepy, but amazingly interesting…paparazzi style photos of you and your friends
