What’s on your playlist?

Written on April 22, 2008

Design Observer has a great post on music in the design studio…and I’m sure we’ve all been on set where the dueling ipods and playlists are blasting.

I’ve also heard of a trend for DJ’s to be hired on set…that is both astounding and amazing to me.

So, what playlists have you lot been treated to on set?  Would love to hear some stories…

It’s true, at a few of my shoots we have had a DJ — and a pretty famous one at that. But only because he is the boyfriend of my main makeup artist and a really great friend. His mixes are great for shoots and also for cardio vacuuming. If you have to clean up you might as well get a workout out of it.

Popular shoot playlists on recent sets have included: BitchCart Parking Lot (lots of stuff from paperthinwalls.com), PartyParty (punk and goth from 80s and 90s), TennisWithGuitars (nice wakeup music for those early morning calls) and of course Vacuum, which features 2 amazing dance remixes of Michael Mcdonald songs and much much more.

PS George Michael = almost always a hit. Same for Rhianna. ?

I hired a DJ for a 5 day shoot and he never showed up…so that didn’t work out so well and we heard a whole lot of Kanye West that week it seems to be a top request among talent.
