From my readers…

Written on June 10, 2008

For all my New York readers hopefully you’re managing in the sweltering heat.  Where are those air conditioned pants of the future they promised us?

Occasionally I get emails (hello@avisualsociety.com) from keen readers and fans and it’s always pleasant, or at least interesting.  I also seem to have made my way onto a variety of lists…

Anyways, I wanted to write and link about a few sites from people who have written in of late.

Boston Photography Focus

bpf

Well, pretty self descriptive, a new blog from the Photographic Resource Center at Boston University.  Founded in 1976 and dedicated to emerging and midcareer photographers of all genres, they are a small non-profit gallery, education and library center.  They already have a trove of posts of interest to anyone in photography.

And for my younger readers (or perhaps not) who are about to embark on an education in the arts…Find Your Art School is a site that works with accredited art colleges to create a comprehensive directory for potential students to browse.  I didn’t really browse through the site though it seems like they are continually adding art colleges.

And lastly…a site that is launching officially today, is Vewd.  In their words “Vewd is an international photography website dedicated to continuing the tradition of storytelling through a visual medium - this includes documentary, photojournalism, street and portraiture in the form of galleries and multimedia pieces.”

And furthermore they are accepting stories for paid publication…June 23rd deadline for the July Issue.

Continuing in the spirit of things…these are not reader emails but nonetheless things of interest for the photography community.

Also today is the ICP Teen Internship Exhibition opening reception, from 6 to 8pm. This is the exhibition for the teens accepted into ICP’s internship program, part of ICP’s Teen Academy.  The reception will be held at The Art Gallery of Manhattan Borough President Scott M. Stringer, 1 Centre Street, 19th Floor, South Tower, Municipal Building.

And lastly, a site dedicated to Women in Photography.  Curated by Amy Elkins and Cara Phillips, this site is dedicated to women in the contemporary photo world and will showcase a solo exhibition of work from select photographers every other Tuesday of the month.  Women in Photography is sponsored by the Humble Arts Foundation.
