Dear friends,
After much deliberation, it has been decided that Remain in Light will be shifted in a new direction. This change requires a new identity: Lay Flat. The first issue of Lay Flat will bear the title “Remain in Light” and will feature the same 20 photographers that were co-curated by Karly Wildenhaus and I originally, as well as a selection of writing on photography. Each issue following this inaugural publication will feature a new selection of text and photography, edited by myself and a different co-editor.
This is an exciting turn for the publication and I hope all of you are still as eager as I am to see this get off of the ground. I’d like to point you all to the new website for Lay Flat - www.layflat.org - and encourage you to pass this change on to anyone you may know who may be interested. Though the “call for entries” for photographic work is currently closed, Lay Flat reviews submissions of writing on a rolling basis. Head to the website to find out how to submit.
Lay Flat is still seeking sources of funding to assist the launch of the publication. If you are able to donate, please take this time to offer your support by visiting the website and clicking the “donate” button. Those of you who give more than $20 will be personally thanked in print and also receive an advanced mailing regarding the release of the publication, to assure you the chance of acquiring a copy before it sells out. The publication is expected to be available for purchase by November.
If you’re reading this e-mail, you should already know that this project is a labor of love but I want to stress that it simply would not be possible without all of your patience and continued support. Thank you.
My best,
Shane Lavalette, editor

Hello,
I hope this email finds you well and you had a good summer.
I am part of a collective organizing an online auction of well known photographers as a benefit for the Obama campaign.
Obviously, time is a factor as the election approaches but we still have hope that we can contribute to make change
happen this November!
The auction will take place the weekend of October 2nd and will run for four days.
The following artists will be participating:
Nubar Alexanian, Uta Barth, Nina Berman, Walead Beshty, Ellen Brooks, Elinor Carucci, Eileen Cowin, Tim Davis, Doug Dubois, Jason Evans, Wendy Ewald, Larry Fink, Harrell Fletcher, Jason Fulford, Tierney Gearon, Jim Goldberg, Frank Golke, Emmet Gowin, Katy Grannan, Sharon Harper, Todd Hido, Jeff Jacobson, Eirik Johnson, Ron Jude, Lisa Kereszi, Michael Light, David Maisel, Susan Meiselas, Richard Misrach, Laura McPhee, Carter Mull, Laurel Nakadate, Catherine Opie, Shana & Robert ParkeHarrison, Hirsch Perlman, John Pilson, Laurrie Simmons, Mike Slack, Alec Soth, Larry Sultan, Peter Sutherland, Hank Willis Thomas, Catherine Wagner, Jim Welling, and Mark Wyse.
I am asking for your help in spreading the word about this auction to any interested parties (gallerists, curators, institutions, collectors, etc.).
In the next couple of days you will receive an email from auction@artforobama.net with a link to the auction and other pertinent information.
Warmly,
Whitney
